Counting will help you to stay in present moment, by providing immediate feedback of every moment. In turn, you follow thoughts, which are not mindful, which occur when you forget the count. It also keeps the practitioner focused on single function, which is the breath. When you have mastered counting, go backwards again to one. This practice of concentration should be performed several times a day. Only in such a case, you will be able to learn how your mind works.
